This vintage camera is a real pioneer in the field of photography. It is a Leica I made by Ernst Leitz GmbH from Wetzlar (Germany) in 1925. It was the first camera to be mass-produced by the company and the first design was called model Ia. This item is in good condition in spite of its old age and is fully functional; its owner will be able to take photos with it just like when it was originally made. The camera has a vintage rangefinder and an original lens too. The black covering that protects the box is in good condition, with the logical signs of the trace of time and use that only provide the camera with charm and authenticity. Though this Leica I has survived to our days in very good condition, the original black finish is somewhat worn at the corners and edges, where we can see the golden tone of the metal below it. The lens, sunshade and mobile parts are well preserved. The camera bears the serial number 14140 engraved at the top of its metal frame. One of its most relevant features is that it has a mushroom-shaped release that was later substituted by a newer design in the following models. The Leica Ia was introduced to the public in 1924, during the Spring Fair Market of Leipzig. Though the first units mounted Anastigmat lenses, from 1975 on these lenses changed their name to Elmax (to honor its designers, Enrst Leitz and Max Berek). As it was considerably expensive to manufacture, Berek eventually changed the design while keeping the quality. It was then when the lens got its definite name, Elmar. Later the Leica Ia model mounted a Hektor lens while the Leica Ib model included a central shutter called Leica Compur. This cameras look is highly attractive and keeps a vintage touch that makes a difference with the subsequent models. It is surely a collectors piece, even more interesting if we take in consideration that it works perfectly. The camera mounts an Elmar F: 50 m /1:3.5 lens and has also an original rangefinder with serial number 21585 that can be attached to the center of the camera's body. The lens comes with an original sunshade. At the top of the camera, surrounding the shutter speed adjusting wheel we can see the name of the manufacturer, ERNST LEITZ D.R.P. WETZLAR, engraved in silvery lettering. This cameras ancient age, its good condition and working order and its interest as a historic piece in the field of photography will turn it into the starring piece in any collection.
