Nice vintage camera made in the Soviet Union. It is a fake Leica Iia, made with high attention to detail and that has come to our days in good condition. The camera works fine; though it cannot provide the magnificent performance of original Leica cameras, it is possible to take good photographs with it. This piece has survived to our days in good condition, with an original and well preserved dark brown leather case. Though it is not a real Leica Iia, the camera is unquestionably charming and is a very interesting find for any collector.Russian fake Leicas became very popular in the middle of the 20th century. After World War II, the Soviet Union started producing cameras under the name of Zorbik. These models were inspired in or directly copied from Leica II cameras. The Soviet factories produced thousands of models to be sold in the American market, where buyers longed for Leicas: though these cameras could not deceive an expert, they were easy to sell to the average layperson. Many Russian Leicas were produced and the factories even developed models never produced by the German manufacturer. This particular camera is a Gold Luxus Leica. Its name corresponds to the color of the material its body and mobile parts are made of: polished brass. This feature provides the camera with a rare charm and a very attractive look. At the top we can see the engraved serial number, 1447100, and also other details intended to simulate a real Leica Iia: the logo (that is also engraved in the lenss cover) and the manufacturing companys name, Ernst Leitz Wetzlar. This fine camera is a curious and original piece that will shine in a showcase containing the best collection of photo-related antiques.
