Fine camera with polished brass body and original brown leather case, made in the Soviet Union. It is a copy of a Leica camera, produced when the government of Eastern Germany used the technology developed by the German brand to manufacture their own cameras. This piece, highly decorative and full of charm, bears serial number 122001 and has also some inscriptions intended to imitate original Leica cameras, more precisely the Leica IIa. This camera is in good condition and perfect working order. These vintage cameras were known as Russian Leicas and became very popular in their time. Most of the models were manufactured with Zorki cameras, an original Russian design that was inspired by the Leica II. Their popularity was so high that thousands of models like this one were produced, with polished brass body and real leather case. Though they are undoubtedly curious models and are perfect to become part of a good collection of vintage cameras, these Russian cameras are surely not as high-quality as real Leica models. The Russian Leicas were manufactured in many versions; some of them were new designs that had never been commercialized by Leica. The camera we can see in these images is a version of the Gold Luxus, which bore this name because of its golden brass body. Inside the leather case we can see a leaflet printed in Russian lettering, original from the time when the camera was made. The leather case bears also the engraved Leica logo and has survived to our days in wonderful condition. We are looking at an original piece that will surely delight any lover of vintage curious cameras. This one will look great in a showcase full of the best models.
