This striking piece is a Leica M2 camera, an iconic model made in 1964. The camera is in very good condition and working order and comes in its original real leather case. The camera is 100% in perfect operating condition. It has been cleaned, checked and fine-tuned by a professional (in September 2013, see invoice scanned) so it is in optimal condition to be used and/or exposed. The camera is made of chromed metal with black faux-leather covering; it is not only a highly precise machine but also one of the best designs in the history of photography. Great photographers of the 20th century used a Leica M2 to take their photos: for example Alexander Korda, who took his famous image of Che Guevara with a similar camera. The Leica M2 is a 35 mm rangefinder camera made by Ernst Leitz GmbH de Wetzlar, Germany. The first models appeared in 1957 and the camera soon became very popular. Between 1957 and 1968 around 82000 Leica M2 cameras were sold in Germany, while the Canadian factory manufactured about 1500. This model was considered a simplified and cheaper version of famous Leica M3. At the top of our camera we can see some engraved inscriptions with all the information about the manufacturer and the model, and also the serial number 1099214.The cameras frame is in excellent condition. The chromed metal looks clean and regular, with the engraved and black-enameled inscription perfectly clear and visible. The same can be said about the black-lacquered parts and the ones covered by faux leather. The camera mounts an original LEITZ ELMAR 1:2,8/50 lens with serial number 1933854. It also comes with a VISOFLEX II visor, for macro photography. On the other hand, the original reddish brown leather case is somewhat worn, but is in general good condition and provides the camera with uncontested charm and personality. The Leica M2 camera that we can see in these images is a historic piece. Its excellent condition and working order turn it into an object of desire for any lover of photography.
