Leica IIIf Camera, 1956

This camera is a Leica IIIf model, a light and compact camera that was a real revolution in the time it was launched. Made in Germany in 1956, this piece is still one of the lightest and most reliable cameras in the market. The camera is in an almost mint condition and only shows very slight signs of use that can hardly be appreciated to the naked eye. The black material that covers the body is regular and even, while the silvery metal boasts a uniform surface. The camera has a self-timing device and comes with a screw-mount close-focus attachment, usually known as Sooky, for close photographs.The Leica IIIf was launched in 1954 succeeding the Leica IIId. This camera is much lighter and smaller than other M series cameras, and can even be quieter. As the experts say, it does what they do best, but even better. When the Leica IIIf was first commercialized in the 50s it was a very expensive camera, and even so the model was in backorder for the first two years. This model included very interesting new features like built-in flash synchronization and in some cases (like the camera we can see in these images), a self-timer.At the top of the camera we can see the engraved logo with the market name, and the manufacturers name too: ERNST LEITZ GMBH WETZLAR GERMANY. We can also see the cameras serial number: Nr. 823261. It mounts an original Leitz Elmar f=5 1:35 lens whose zoom capacity is improved by the original screw-mount close-focus attachment that comes with the camera. The lenss serial number is 1373802. The close-focus attachment is also in quite good condition, showing only tiny signs of use that can be easily covered with model paint.The popularity of the Leica IIIf is fully justified because of its excellent performance. This camera, as well as being an article with a long history behind, it will also be the best companion for the most demanding photographer.
