This amazing bellows camera is a piece more than one hundred years old that has survived to our days in excellent condition. It is a Scovill camera, made in Connecticut, USA in 1886. The camera preserves all its original pieces and component parts and is in working order, as well as boasting a wonderful look that turns it into a highly decorative piece. The cameras housing is made of solid light-colored mahogany wood. The front wooden piece the objective is attached to bears the engraved manufacturers name, SCOVILL Mfg. Co. This name is also engraved in the objectives housing, together with the inscription WATERBURY LENS. Scovill Manufacturing Co. Was founded in 1880 in Waterbury, Connecticut under the name of Abel Porter & Co. Some years later it became a powerful company and in 1902 it merged with E. & H. T. Anthony Co, the biggest distributor of photographic material in the USA. The result was a new company, Ansco. As we can see in the photographs, the wooden pieces that make up the cameras housing are wonderfully preserved. They show no scratches and are protected by a nice satin finish. The connections shows beautiful dovetail joints, attractive and sturdy. The brass elements are also in good condition thought the objective show some signs of the trace of time. This piece bears the engraved serial number 101082. As decorative as functional, this lovely Scovill camera will delight every lover of the history of photography.
