Striking and rare antique box camera signed by Hugo Corona and made in Germany in 1890. This camera is really an exclusive piece, worthy of inclusion in a good museum or a great collection of photo-relates antiques. It preserves all its original component parts and pieces except for the outside ropes (which were replaced when the existing ones got worn). The woods condition is really good; the parts that operate the mechanism are finely preserved too. The camera can be charged with a 9x12-cm plate charger. The light-colored mahogany wooden box boasts a great French-polish finish that enhances the wonderful golden reddish color of the material. The corners are rounded and create a lovely design, quite functional too. The metal component parts bear a black-enameled finish; the finish is slightly worn and this detail provides the camera with a nice antique patina. The hinges and fasteners are in good condition too. The leather handle is the original one; it is quite worn but still fulfills its carrying duty. Screwed on the wood we can see a black metal plate with the engraved inscription CORONA D.R.Pat. If we open the front lid, screwed inside the piece we can see three elements essential to use the camera: the brass lens and two triangular pieces that reflect the light. Inside the box, a system composed of two springs and a metal lid is connected to the shutter rope. The other rope is for charging the shutter. At the back, the rear lid has a big brass spring screwed to its inner side. Complete, decorative and in working order, this superb and rare antique camera signed by Hugo Corona is bound to belong to a great collector of old-time photographic equipment.
