Antique Le Glyphoscope stereoscopic camera by Jules Richard with case and plates, made in France circa 1910 and in good condition. The camera is a real collectors piece, complete and entirely original from the time. The shutter and the rest of the mechanism are working order though the speed has not been tested. The camera is entirely made of black-finished metal; one of its part bears the models name and manufacturer, LE GLYPHOSCOPE J. RICHARD, in big embossed lettering finely preserved. The black finish is in good condition, showing only slights signs of wear which provide it with character. The camera comes in its brown leather storing case; the case is complete too though showing some signs of the trace of time and use. The kit includes six original photographic plates. He was a famous French engineer and inventor, known as one of the fathers of photography. His father Felix invented the first metallic barometer in Paris and started a family business. After his death in 1876 the company was almost bankrupt, but Jules took over and in 1880 he invented a recording barometer which became quite popular. In the following years, the firm widened its production and reached a remarkable success. Along the way Richard became quite interested in stereoscopic photography and designed highly popular cameras such as the Verascope.
