Antique Ormolu Mantel Clock. Minerva Goddess. France, Circa 1850
Very rare and antique ormolu mantel clock with Minerva goddess, made in France circa 1850 and in excellent condition. The movement chimes the hours and the halves, being in excellent condition. This is a very special model because the pedestal has six sides instead of the habitual four: it is supported by six ball-shaped legs, each one under a different side. This is quite an uncommon design and turns this clock into a real collector’s piece. Over the pedestal we can see the clock in an hexagonal box and a figure of Minerva goddess to the right. To the left, a Roman lance leans on the clock; a quiver with an arrow lies on the floor. The pedestal is decorated with classic-style embossed figures depicting gods and muses. The ormolu finish is wonderfully preserved and so is the white porcelain dial with Roman numerals and Breguet hands. The dial has a hairline in the 5 position, a scarcely relevant detail which does not interfere in the clock’s great look. The movement has a circular mark with the inscription MEDAILLE DE BRONZE and the clockmaker’s name, J. Marti & Cie., and an inscription with the initials H&F and the serial number 2955.
Really beautiful and undoubtedly exclusive, this very rare and antique ormolu mantel clock with Minerva goddess figure will shine on a mantelpiece or a sideboard.
