Antique Schubert Mechanical Calculator Mod. DRV. Germany, 1960s
Antique Schubert mechanical calculator mod. DRV made in Germany in the 1960s, amazingly preserved and working as fine as the first day of use. The calculator is almost like new, both aesthetically and functionally. The levers, the pointers and the crank move softly, turning its operation into a real pleasure for the user. The machine performs the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with accurate results, keeping the maximum precision. The metal case which covers the mechanism is painted in a fine hammered light greyish green, perfectly preserved. The crank and the pointers are made of green and orange bakelite and stand out for their bright colors and shine. At the back of the calculator we can see a riveted plate with the brand name, SCHUBERT RASTATT, and the serial number DRV 149277. The calculator also keeps the four original green rubber legs which provide it with stability. They are in fine condition too.
This antique Schubert mechanical calculator mod. DRV will shine on a noble desk or as part of a good collection.
Schubert Calculators History
In 1906 Emil Schubert was a foreman at the Triumphator-Werke, and was involved with the development of pinwheel calculators from the beginning on. In 1911 he decided to form a company (together with a businessman called L. Haberer) to produce calculators of his own. The later success of the Thales was due to Max Mueller, a talented businessman who had also good connections. In 1933 Mueller was found guilty of embezzlement and was forced to leave the company; three years later, the Nazis forced Schubert to leave his company without taking his patents. After WWII, in 1938 Emil Schubert founded a new company to produce calculators under his own name, Schubert, which was successful on the world market until the late 1960s.
