Antique French Chapska Helmet for Lancer officer. Mod. 1848. France, Circa 1850

Antique chapska helmet for lancer officer mod. 1848, made in France circa 1850 and in amazing condition. The model is original from the Second French Republic and is an imposing as attractive. The helmet was completely restored and completed some time ago, perhaps in the 1960s. It looks spectacular right now. The red cloth on the chain does not look to be the original, as it shows very new, so I think it is part of the original restoration. The main body of the helmet was remade at the time of restoration and covered with waxed fabric. The top part of the helmet, typical of these hats, is covered by the original fabric. It is somewhat worn but complete though. At the front, the helmet has a brass metal detail with a rooster (the national symbol of France) sitting on an orb, two crossed quivers with axes and two hands shaking. We can see the French Republic motto too: Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité. Under this detail, a golden chain separates the helmet and the peaks and reaches one of the top plate’s corners. At one side the helmet has an imposing plume with the colors of the French flag.

For its ancient age and magnificent presence, this a tique chapska helmet for lancer officer mod. 1848 deserves to shine in a great collection of historic military antiques.
