Impressive collection of twenty four photographs on stereoscopic glass plates, showing scenes of the 1st World War. The collection is kept in its original cardboard case and is in good condition. It is composed of twenty four glass plates with sepia-toned images, made to be seen using a stereoscope. Through this device, the two images of each plate fade making an optic illusion that lets the viewer see the scene in 3D. In the collection we find images that show the soldiers in the trenches, convoys of prisoners, walks through the battlefield, crossing of rivers and even a photograph of a seaplane landing on the water. Each plate is labeled and has an inscription in French indicating the place and year where the photograph was taken, and telling what is happening in the scene. The images have an impressive authenticity and historical value. Their warm sepia tone, which gives them their special character and nostalgic charm, is a sign of their age and enhances their aesthetical beauty. Overall, this magnificent set of stereoscopic images on glass plates is a great acquisition, which will stand out in any collection of war and historical antiques. Plate measurements: 60 mm height x 130 mm width.
