Antique Verge-Fusee Pocket Watch. 2 Silver cases. Peter Hepburn. London, 1801
Gorgeous antique verge-fusee pocket watch with 2 silver cases, made by Peter Hepburn in London in 1801 and in working order. This is quite a fine-looking piece, more than 200 years old and finely preserved, with hallmarks in the pendant and the cases which match the year engraved in the movement, 1801. The watch’s dial stands out for its simple and elegant design, with black Roman numerals on a white porcelain background and ‘poire’ gilt hands. The cases have no engraved decoration at all; as well as the hallmark of the year, we can also see the initials RG and the London silver mark. The movement is beautiful: it is profusely decorated with hand-engraved flowers and scrolls, and has the watchmaker’s signature, Peter Hepburn 1801, in a lovely cursive lettering.
This antique verge-fusee pocket watch with 2 silver cases by Peter Hepburn is an outstanding piece, ideal for daily use or as part of a good collection.
