Fine 18K-Gold Cylinder Ladies’ Pocket Watch. France, Circa 1870
Fine 18K-gold cylinder ladies’ pocket watch made in France circa 1870, with original case and key. The watch is in good condition and works well, being also a jewel with a gorgeous design. It comes in a very attractive case, decorated with chinoiseries - though the lock is damaged, is finely preserved and still fulfills its protecting function. The watch has a white porcelain dial with stylized Roman numerals and Fassonzeiger-type hands. At the pendant we can see a horsehead-shaped hallmark which is also present in other parts of the case. The rear cap has guilloche decoration, a circular Hellenic-style band and a beautiful complicated central star. Inside, this cap has two engraved numbers: 13444 y 32020, as well as the hallmark stated before and a mark with the initials BJ. The dustcap has the same hallmarks and the number 32030 too. The storing case is black outside, with a lovely scene where two figures dressed in traditional outfits are walking in the countryside, holding fans.
This fine 18K-gold cylinder ladies’ pocket watch is a delicate and attractive piece, a perfect gift for a person with a taste for old-time jewels.
