Fascinating machete for on-foot artillery mod. 1816, made in France circa 1835 and in excellent condition. This is an ancient model which was used during a period known as Monarchy of July, which took place in France between 1830 and 1848. It has been possible to date the machete thanks to the image of the rooster engraved in the pommel, on both sides. Curiously enough, this model of machete was also used during the USA Civil War. The weapons hilt is made of brass, with the surface of the grip molded in the shape of lined scales. As stated before, the pommel has two engraved roosters which identify the period. The cross-guard is straight and is trimmed by circular pieces. The steel blade, uniform and finely preserved, is protected by the original scabbard. This piece is made of leather and preserves the brass locket and chape. This antique machete for on-foot artillery model 1816 is a singular and attractive piece, worth of the best collection. Dimensions: Blade Length: 18.70 in / 47.5 cm. Total Length: 24.60 in / 62.5 cm.
