Rare machete, Modelo Argentino 1909 (Argentine Model 1909) made in Germany circa 1910 for the Argentine army at the beginning of the 20th century. This piece is more than one hundred years old but remains in striking condition, almost like new. The machete’s cross-guard bears the hand-engraved serial number F01177, which can also be seen (with identical lettering) at the scabbard’s metal locket. This means that both pieces were manufactured at the same time and have remained together from the beginning, for more than a century. Just under the cross-guard, the blade bears an engraved motif with a logo crowned by a laurel wreath and the inscription MODELO ARGENTINO 1909. The motif is in perfect condition, well marked and legible. The blade is in a flawless condition, with no dents or signs of wear at all; the same can be said about the hilt, with greatly-preserved dark wooden side plates. The steel and leather scabbard looks really fine too; the leather harness designed to hang the machete from the belt is marked with a circle containing the letters ABC.

This outstanding and rare machete Model Argentine 1909 is a real collector’s piece for its ancient age and wonderful condition.
