Antique Sidearm for Spanish Infantry Officer in Cuba. Spain, Circa 1890
Antique sidearm for Spanish infantry officer in Cuba, made in Spain circa 1890 and of remarkable beauty. Though this amazing weapon is more than one century old, it has survived to our days in very good condition and preserves all its powerful presence. The hilt is a gorgeous piece: the alpaca pommel is shaped as a lion’s head with glass eyes and open jaws, and the brass cross-guard is adorned with symmetrical eagles’ heads, one at each side, with two small tabs that fit into the scabbard. The grip is covered of ray leather and preserves the original twine in really fine condition. These machetes were manufactured in Germany for the Spanish army in Cuba. On the blade, near the hilt, we can see engraved the German inscription of the manufacturer, together with the logo which in this case is a horse head and the number 507. The scabbard is also original, made of very well preserved embossed leather and with alpaca locket, decorated with an engraved mask.
This antique sidearm for Spanish officer in Cuba will be a great acquisition for any collection of historic weapons.
