This calculator is a real icon in the history of calculating machines: it is an Original Odhner calculator, more precisely No.7, made in Switzerland in 1932. Although it is quite ancient, the machine works perfectly and can perform arithmetical operations with complete precision. Both its design and functionality turn it into a highly interesting and attractive piece, worthy to belong to a technology museum. A well as working perfectly, this calculator is in great condition and keeps all its original parts and components, and also the golden inscriptions with its brand and precedence. The calculators name comes from Swiss inventor W. T. Odhners surname, who emigrated to Russia and there developed the pinwheel system in 1873. It seems that he thought of this system in 1871, when he was repairing a Thomas Arithmometer (tne only mechanical calculator of those times): Odhner decided to substitute the Leibniz cylinder by a smaller pinwheel disk. In 1878-79 he patented his calculator in several countries and developed an improved version in 1890, when serial production started. The name Original-Odhner that we can see printed in this machine started to be used in 1907. After the Russian Revolution of 1917, the Original-Odhner S.A. was re-established in Gothenburg (Switzerland). In this calculator we can see the inscription ORIGINAL-ODHNER AKTIEBOLAGET GÖTEBORG printed in golden lettering at its top left corner. At the bottom left corner there is also a golden and black metal plate screwed to the machine, with the companys name (ORIGINAL-ODHNER SA) and the address of a shop in Brussels where the calculator was probably first sold. Otherwise at the back there is another engraved inscription with the model and the serial number: Nº 7 152596, and finally at the base we can see this number: M 602 Nº 5. The calculator boasts an attractive design with black-enameled iron frame and golden digits engraved in the metal. This attractive look and the calculators perfect working order turn it into an amazing vintage machine, manufactured by the firm that founded by the inventor of these intelligent devices.Measurements: Width: 350 mm.
