Its working is based, as many other from the same time, in the pinwheel system developed by Odhner. In order to commercialize their own machines, German company Grimme, Natalis & Co. from Braunschweig acquired the patents of the Odner calculator in 1892 and produced and marketed them under the name Brunsviga (Latin for Braunschweig). The new firm was named Brunsviga Maschinenwerke AG in 1927 and merged with another famous calculator manufacturer, the Olympia Werke AG from Wilhelmshaven, in 1959.This particular calculating machine is a Nova-Brunsviga Model II and its serial number is 104043. The number and the model can be seen at the machines front, at the left bottom corner. On the other side, at the right bottom corner lays the engraved name of the manufacturing company: Grimme, Natalis & Co. To the left of the levers there is a white inscription with the calculators name, NOVA-BRUNSVIGA, and the companys logotype: a monogram with the letters N and G into a star, all framed by a circle. At the back we can see again the models name engraved in big white lettering. This striking and sober calculator preserves all the charm of vintage machines from the early 1900s, and boasts about a wonderful working order.
