The calculator we can see in these photographs is a real collectors item: a Schubert calculating machine made in the 1950s, in its original cardboard box and impeccable condition. The piece comes in its original case; it preserves the waxed paper designed to keep it in perfect condition and is as beautiful and functional as out of the factory. The machine has not been used at all, a feature that enhances its interest for the collector. As well as being in striking condition and working order, this calculator has its original instrutions in English. This particular machine is a Schubert DRV, a very popular model from the middle of the 20th century. Its name derives from Emil Schubert (1883-1952), who designed the Thales pinwheel calculator in Germany in 1911. In 1930 Schubert lost control of his company, and in 1938 he founded a new firm under its own name. During the World War II the firm started to produce Schubert Calculators and continued until the late 1960s. The Schubert DRV was first introduced in 1953. The machine is designed to facilitate one-handed operation: all the controls are located on the right-hand side. At the back of the calculator we can see a nailed white plate nailed with the engraved model and serial number: DRV 172167. Last but not least, the cardboard box also contains an original flexible cover designed to protect the calculator (unfolded) and an instruction leaflet in English, both in perfect condition. This incredible Schubert calculating machine, with its original box and in unbeatable condition and working order, is a highly interesting piece for the most demanding collector.
