This fine vintage calculating machine is a Triumphator CRN1 made in East Germany in the 1950s. It is a nice looking machine because of the green enameled finish that covers its casing and makes a difference with the classic black and grey calculators from the same time. The finish is in wonderful condition, and except for a worn point located at one of the bases rear corners, is almost impeccable. The same can be said about the chromed component parts and the black bakelite knobs and handles. This calculator is in working order though when resetting the result the lever gets slightly stuck, probably because of there is dust inside, and it blocks the machine, but just moving the same lever again, it gets released and can be used again. It's very simple. Probably a good cleaning will solve this forever. Nevertheless the machine works and is a singularly decorative piece too.The company that manufactured this machine was founded in 1900. In the beginning, the firm (located in Leipzig) manufactured vacuum tubes. When Otto Holzapfel arrived in the factory, they began con produce calculators in 1904 under the brand name Triumphator. The Boleslaus Benas, a Brunsviga man, entered the company and brought Triumphator to success. In 1930 the year-production of Triumphator was alike its competitor Brunsviga. After World War II the East Germanys government took control of the company; from then on, they produced calculators mainly for the "Eastern Bloc". In1965 the production came to an end.The numbers needed to perform arithmetic operations are engraved in the metal and painted red and white. Both colors are in perfect condition. To the left of the numbers we can see the market name engraved and painted white. At the back of the calculator we find two interesting features: on the one hand, the serial number and model (228694 CRN1), and on the other, a metal plate with the name and address of the original distributor: Otto Hermann from Hannover. This calculators intrinsic beauty is only one of its many points of interest. It is undoubtedly a piece worthy of a good collection of calculating machines.
