This nice vintage calculator is a classic model from the first half of the 20th century. It is a Brunsviga 13 P, a pinwheel calculating machine made in Germany in 1935. The calculator is made of black-enameled metal sheet and has survived to our days in optimal conditions. Its black finish shines like new and scarcely shows any sign of wear, while the mobile component parts work fluidly and softly. The calculator can be perfectly used to perform the four basic arithmetic operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. At the front side of the machine, to the left we can read the calculators name and model: BRUNSVIGA 13 P. Brunsviga (Latin name for Braunschweig, the city where the manufacturing company was established) is the name of the calculating machines made by Grimme, Natalis & Co., a firm founded in 1871 to sell sewing machines and domestic appliances. In 1892 the company bought the manufacturing rights of the Odhner calculator and started making their own machines. Brunsviga calculators were manufactured and improved during 30 years: engineer Franz Trinks was mostly responsible for their launching and development. The 13-series machines appeared in 1927. After World War II production resumed with a new range of 13-series calculators, motored models and a range of small adding machines.Under this calculators name and model we can also see its serial number: 152727. To the right rests the manufacturing companys name, engraved in the metal and painted white. At the top, just to the left of the digit levers we can see the word BRUNSVIGA with a circular metal plate with the brand logo printed on it. The engraved numbers are painted white and light green, and the levers are copper-colored. All these pieces are original and remain in excellent working order. This lovely Brunsviga calculator is a nice article and a fully functional machine that testifies for the quality of mechanical devices from the first half of the 20th century.
