This vintage pin-wheel calculator is a very interesting article made in Germany in 1912. In spite of being so old the machine is in magnificent condition and works like new. It is a Brunsviga calculator, a legendary name in the field of pinwheel calculating machines and artihmometers. These articles were invented by the engineer W. T. Odhner in 1873 and during the first half of the 20th century they became enormously popular because of their easy operation and reliability. The calculator we can see in these images is a good example of their quality: it lets the user perform the four basic arithmetic operations with total precision.Brunsviga calculators were manufactured by Grimme, Natalis & Co. from 1892 to the late 1960s. That year Franz Trinks bought the patent righst for Odher pinwheel calculator and from then on the company launched many models of this kind. The production kept on until 1957. The calculator we can see in these images is model B, a very popular design produced from 1893 to 1927. In 1959 Olympia Werke took over Brunsviga and in the late 1960s the production of calculators came to an end. At the front of the machine we can see the name TRINKS BRUNSVIGA engraved in the metal and painted white; it is the name of the system imported and improved by the mentioned engineer. To the left of the inscription we can see the calculators serial number: 32431. Just below it, a white medal contains the manufacturing companys initials and a logo depicting two griffons holding a shield. The calculator stands on a solid oak wooden base that boasts a nice golden brown color. The machine comes with its protecting cover, made of black-lacquered metal sheet and that can be locked with the original key (in working order). The cover also keeps the carrying handle. In striking condition and working like new, this Brunsviga calculator is undoubtedly a collectors piece.
