This beautiful vintage calculating machine is a Brunsviga Doppel model D13 R-1. This type of calculator has two twin bodies joined in the same housing, which can perform arithmetic operations independently or together, depending on the need. The machine we see in the photos was manufactured in Germany in the 1950s: this model was widely used by the German army due to its reliability and efficiency. It is a pinwheel calculator that works with the mechanism invented by W. Odhner at the end of the 19th century, inspired by the one that Leibniz already designed in the 17th century. The calculator is made of metal and has a silver enameled case with hammered finish, in very good condition and working order. The Brunsviga firm was born when the company Grimme, Natalis & Co. of Brauschweig, Germany, bought the rights to the Odhner's windlass calculator (arithmometer) in 1892. The word Brunsviga is the translation of Braunschweig, the name of the city where the company was located, into Latin. The Brunsviga firm prospered and manufactured many different models throughout the 20th century. In 1959 it merged with Olympia Werke, but the brand name was retained. Doppel calculators (Brunsviga Doppelreschenmachine), so called because they had a double body, were a very popular design that continued through the 1950s and 1960s.This particular machine is an excellent example of the quality of the firm's designs. Of solid construction and attractive vintage aesthetics, the calculator features chrome-plated metal parts and maroon Bakelite grips and pointers. The combination of tones is elegant and striking at the same time. All parts of the machine function perfectly, smoothly and smoothly, making its operation a real pleasure for the collector and lover of antique calculators. The machine can be used as the first day to perform the four basic arithmetic operations, being a piece as attractive and decorative as functional.Lovers of retro machines will find this impressive Brunsviga Doppel calculator an exceptional piece, full of charm and authenticity.
