This curious and attractive mechanical calculator is a Felix M, a very popular Soviet machine that kept on being manufactured until the late 1970s. This is an original model from those times whose nice design is accompanied by an excellent working order and a proved reliability. The calculator has light-brown-enameled metal case, a rare finish that turns it into a very special piece. It can perform the four basic arithmetic operations and it is a real pleasure to work with it it, as it provides a fluid and nice manipulation. At the front, to the left of the digit levers we can see the name and model of the calculator in Cyrillic lettering: FELICKS M. The name Felix corresponds to Felix Dherzhinskiye, founder of the factory where these pinwheel machines (based in the system invented by Odhner) were produced. The factory started its production in Moscow in 1924. Dherzhinskiye is best known as the founder of the Checka (which would ultimately become the KGB). The original Odhner system, whose sons had fled to Sweden, was nationalized by the USSR in 1917 and would be used by Dherzhinsikye for his Felix calculators. While in the rest of Europe arithmometers were disappearing, Soviet Felix calculators would be produced until 1978. This machine is a good example of the solid quality and functional beauty that characterized the iron Felix, as they were known. The white enameled numbers engraved beside the levers are neat and clear and the mobile parts look good, with no signs of rust. At the front, in the left bottom corner we can see an engraved serial number: F301485, while at the back there is another serial, in this case slightly erased. The calculator is in excellent condition and preserves all the charm of original pinwheel arithmometers, being a real collectors piece. This gorgeous Felix calculator is bound to occupy a place of honor in the classiest study.
