This amazing vintage calculator is a classic model with a sober and sturdy design that has survived to our days in excellent condition and working order. It is a Brunsviga 13RK made in Germany in the 1950s, a very popular model that even today can perform the four basic arithmetic operations with total reliability. The calculator keeps all its original pieces and component part in great working order and is almost faultless: the hammered enamel finish that covers the metal case looks even and shiny, as for the dark red bakelite pointers and knobs needed to manipulate the machine. At the front of the calculator, to the left of the digit levers we can see a triangular metal plate with the market name Brunsviga and the brand logo. This is the Latin name for Braunschweig, the German city where the manufacturer company was established in 1871. The company, named Grimme, Natalis &Co., started making sewing machines and small domestic appliances until in 1892 they acquired the patent righst of Odhner pinwheel machine and began manufacturing them under the new market name. Engineer Franz Trinks was a crucial man in the development of these machines as he improved the Odhner system to create calculators that were noted for their precision and efficiency. The Brunsviga 13 series, the one this calculator belongs to, was launched in 1927. This beautiful machine is finished with hammered golden enamel and has chromed mobile parts in great condition and with no traces of rust. At the bottom of the front side, under the digit grooves we can see the brand name and the city where the machine was made, both inscriptions engraved in the metal. At the back there is also a rectangular red metal plate with the same information printed on its surface. Because of its excellent condition and good working order, this Brunsviga 13RK calculator deserves to keep on providing the services it renders to a good collector.
