The beautiful calculator that we can see in these images is a completely original article made in the first half of the 20th century. It is a pinwheel machine, an arithmometer that can perform the four basic arithmetical operations with fully reliability. This machine is a Triumphator H3Z made in Germany in 1930, in perfect working order and good condition. Its antique look and great operation turn it into a calculator worthy of the best collection, perfect to decorate an elegant study. The machine has black-enameled metal-sheet case; the finish looks nice and regular, with the numbers painted in white and red. Triumphator, together with Odhner and Brunsviga, was one of the three leading brands for pinwheel calculators. This machines work with a mechanism developed by W.T. Odhner in 1873, based in the Leibniz arithmometer. The company was founded in 1900 in Leipzig-Lindenau to produce vacuum tubes. In 1904 they hired a Brunsviga man, Otto Hokzapfel, and started producing the Triumphator calculators. During the first decades of the 20 the century they introduced and made machines with 10s-carry mechanism, in order to perform faster multiplication. This nice calculator bears the logo and model engraved in the metal case and painted white; we can see them to the left of the digit levers. The machine keeps all its original mobile parts in good working order. At the left top corner there is a small lever that lets the user choose between two functions: division and multiplication. On the other hand, at the back of the machine we can see the engraved serial number 81591. Functional and decorative, this Triumphator calculator will still perform greatly for many years. It will provide a touch of class to any study desk.
