Original Aderes adding machine made in Germany in the 1930s. This is a very singular item, with a simple design and concept but very efficient when used. The machines mechanism is made of metal, while the outside case is manufactured of black bakelite. All the pieces and component parts are in good condition: the bakelite looks shiny and flawless and the keys work fluidly. This means that the adding machine can be used to perform additions with the nine basic digits. The Aderes adding machine is a later version of the popular Adix calculator, a metal German machine that started being commercialized in the early 20th century. The Adix was produced for decades; when it disappeared, other bakelite versions such as Amifo, Reports and Aderes (the one we can see in the images) kept on being sold for some years. In order to work with this machine the user must push the digit keys; the machine does not permit addition of whole amounts, just additions of columns of individual digits to the extent to which they do not exceed a total 3-digit sum. This nice adding machine bears the brand name, Aderes, printed in an elegant golden signature at the top of the black case. The nine digit keys are circular, with white background and black numbers; they are greatly preserved and the digits can be clearly read. At the top we can see the three boxes for the result; to the left of the boxes there is a small white lever designed to reset the machine. The base of the device is closed with a screwed bakelite plate. Differently from the Adix, whose mechanism lied exposed, it we want to see how this machine works we will have to remove the screws and the mentioned plate. Its simple design and good working order turn this Aderes machine into a charming and quite singular item.
