Magnificent Curta II Calculator in perfect working order. Liechtenstein, 1961

Amazing manual calculator Curta II, in very good condition and working like new. This small device, reliable and quite attractive, was one of the most popular and efficient portable calculators in the 20th century. Nowadays, its convenient operation and modern aesthetic are quite difficult to exceed. The calculating machine comes in its original case and with the items name printed in bright white lettering. Both pieces are in an almost impeccable condition, and the machine can be used to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. This calculator is quite simple to use. The digit levers in the vertical face are designed to select the numbers and the crank lets us get the result. This cipher appears at the top boxes. The design of the Curta calculator was developed by Curt Herztark, an Austrian inventor with Jewish ancestry that was sent to Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II. When the Nazi authorities found Herztarks designs, they encouraged him to finish the machine as they intended to give the calculator to Hitler as a present to celebrate the future German victory. In 1945 the North American forces liberated the prisoners, and soon after Herztark founded his own factory in Sommertal to produce the calculators. This machine is made of metal, with plastic and bakelite mobile parts. The design combines black, red and hammered grey colors with some red levers. These tones are perfect as they provide the machine with a great industrial look. At the calculators base we can see the model (Type II), the serial number 532131, the country where it was made and the manufacturers name printed in clear white lettering. The inventors name, Curt Hertzark, is also present. The inscription looks bright and new over the black enameled finished.
