Antique German manual calculator with pinwheel system, in very good condition and working order. This is a Rema Model III calculator, a machine that was produced between 1924 and 1927. It is a pinwheel calculator that works with the system developed by Odhner in the 19th century and preserves all the charm of antique arithmometers. Its reliability and good performance turned these machines into very popular articles that kept on being produced until the 1970s. In spite of its ancient age, this calculator keeps all its original component parts in excellent condition.Rema brand was created and commercialized by the Braunschweiger Rechenmaschinen company. The calculators were made by Fabrik Rema, G.m.b.H., a factory located in Braunschweig, Germany. The famous Brunsviga factory was also located in this city and in 1922 they merged with Rema. Nevertheless, the company kept on launching calculators under both market names, Brunsviga and Rema. The machines are quite similar in design and concept, but Rema calculators are less known and more difficult to find than Brunsviga ones. The calculator that we can see in the photographs shows off a solid and compact design, square in shape and with discreet black bakelite component parts. The metal sheet that covers the mechanism is enameled with a glossy black finish and we can see the brand and model name at the left of the digit levers, engraved in clear white lettering. At the back of the machine there is an inscription that reads RBD Breslau. Last but not least, at the front left bottom corner we can see the engraved serial number. All the mobile parts of this calculator are original and remain in excellent condition.Any lover of technical antiques will find an exclusive piece in this Rema calculator, perfect to collect and exhibit.
