This curious and fine piece is an Addi 7 adding machine made in Germany circa 1940. The machine is in good condition and only shows very slight signs of wear due to the trace of time and use. The mechanism works perfectly so currently the adding machine makes it possible to perform additions and subtractions with total reliability. The case that contains and protects the mechanical parts is made of black-enameled cast iron with red and white numbers. The levers and the subtraction key are made of orange, yellow and red bakelite. At the adding machines front side, just under the grooves with the levers we can see the brand logo (Addi 7) engraved in the metal and painted white. The Addi 7 was a very popular adding machie manufactured by Lipsia between 1930 and 1950. This brand was created by former Triumphatorwerke man Otto Holzapfel in 1914. Holzapfel founded the Rechenmaschinen-Fabrik Otto Holzapfel & Cie in Leipzig; the citys Latin name, Lipsia, was chosen as their most renowned calculators brand name. The firm was on business until 1954 when it eventually closed its doors. At the back of the adding machine we can see a big printed inscription with the brand name LIPSIA Rechenmaschinen-Fabrik and the city where the factory was located, Leipzig. There is also a number 1 inside a triangle and the number 37/363/4011, probably the patent number. At the machines base there is an engraved serial number: 32427. As functional as evocative, this antique Addi 7 adding machine is a collectors piece worthy of belonging to a museum of antique machines. Measurements: Width: 3,7 in / 9,5 cm. Height: 5.5 in / 14 cm.
