Nostalgic Hamann Manus R pinwheel calculator, made in Germany in the 1950s. This awesome machine is original from the period and has survived to our days in very good condition. It works fine and it is a pleasure to perform with it the four basic arithmetical operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The calculator preserves it green enameled-finish in good condition and the white and red bakelite levers and pointers look fine too. At the left top corner we can see the name of the machine, Hamann Manus R, engraved in the metal and painted white. Hamann Manus calculators origin dates from 1925, when Christel Hamann (a German engineer born in 1870) designed the first model. Hamman was also responsible for other famous arithmometers from the first half of the 20th century, such as the Gauss and the Mercedes Euklid. After World War I, Hamann was hired by De Te We (Deutschen Telephonwerke- und Kabelindustrie AG), Berlin to design a new pinwheel machine with authomatic division system. It was then when the Hamann Manus calculator was born. This is a lovely pinwheel machine, with a mechanism similar to that developed by W. T. Odhner in Russia in the 1870s. The iron case bears two different green finishes: flat and shiny at the front and hammered at the base and the back. Under the models name we can also see the companys name, De Te We. If we turn the calculator upside down, at the base we will find a metal plate with the serial number 46145 engraved in the metal. Functional and quite decorative, this antique calculator is a real find full of precision and beauty.
