This stunning machine is an antique calculator, a pinwheel model made by the popular German brand Brunsviga in the 1950s. It is a Brunsviga Doppel (double in German), given this name as it is composed of two calculators in an only body. These machines can work together or by themselves, making it possible to perform operations with higher quantities than simple calculators. Their original name is Brunsviga Doppelreschenmachine and they were quite popular in the 1950s and 60s. The calculator that we can see in the photographs in amazing condition and working order. The brand name BRUNSVIGA can be seen in embossed metal letters in the machines central piece. This company was founded in 1892 after Grimme, Natalis & Co. acquired the patent rights of the pinwheel calculator invented by W. T. Odhner, based in Leibnizs arithmometer. Brunsviga is the Latin name of Braunschweig, the city where the factory was located. In 1959 the company merged with Olympia Werke AG but they maintained the brand name. The metal case of this wonderful machine bears a hammered silvery finish. It is in perfect condition and so are the dark-red and bone-colored bakelite pointers and knobs. The calculator works perfectly and is a real pleasure to perform the four basic arithmetical operations with it. At the machines base there is a small metal plate with the engraved serial number 34-111412 and the model: Brunsviga D13 R-1. In addition, at the calculators back we can see another plate with the inscription OLYMPIA WERKE AG. Brunsviga Werke Braunchsweig Made in Germany.
