Dactyle mechanical calculator in great condition and good working order, manufactured in France in the early 20th century (1908). This is a pinwheel machine that makes it possible to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with reliable results. The calculator keeps all its original component parts in good condition and it is a real pleasure to operate it as its different pieces move softly and fluidly. The black enamel that covers the metal case is also very well preserved. At the front side of the machine, to the left of the digit levers we can see a big square metal plate riveted to the metal case. The plate bears the calculators brand name engraved in the metal: MACHINE A CALCULER DACTYLE with a decorative detail below and the businesss address, 46 Bould. Haussmann Paris. Dactyle calculators were mechanical calculators similar to the one designed by W.T. Odhner in the late 19th century. They were produced by Chateau Freres, a company that started manufacturing them in1905. The name Dactyle was given to them by the companys commercial agent. Over the metal plate with the brand name we can see the machines serial number, Nº 2264, engraved and painted white. The rest of the numbers and symbols engraved in the case are also perfectly legible, with the white paint in excellent condition. The silvery metal pieces show a slightly rusted surface, due to the trace of time and that provides the calculator with a nice and charismatic patina; even so, they work perfectly. The base is made of solid oak wood; it has milled edges and is quite well preserved. The good performance of this Dactyle calculator adds to its ancient age to create an exclusive and special piece.
