Lovely adding machine (also known as comptometer) made by Sumlock Ltd. in the 1950s. The machine was manufactured in the United Kingdom and remains in great condition, with all its original component parts working very well. It can perform additions and subtractions in a reliable way, being as functional and practical as when it was originally launched. The adding machine has a light-blue-enameled metal case with a hammered finish it looks curiously modern and light, being the ideal piece to decorate a vintage o retro-style room.At the back of the piece we can see the companys name, SUMLOCK, with a medal containing the same name. The Sumlock Ltd. was a subsidiary of the Bell Punch Company, a British firm that produced office and business machines. The Bell Punch became very popular for launching the first electronic desktop calculator, the Sumlock ANITA. In the 1940s the company produced the first Sumlock, a full-keyboard machine that is considered the forerunner of the mentioned ANITA.This beautiful and evocative machine boasts a simple and stylish design, rectangular in shape and with softly curved lines. The combination of the light blue metal and the black and white keys is extremely appealing. As for its operation, the name sum-lock refers to the interlocking of the mechanism to prevent incomplete key strokes (the key does not return, and no other key in the same column can be depressed until it is pressed far enough). This feature turns it into a much more reliable and user-friendly machine than other calculators from the same period. As nostalgic as decorative, this antique adding machine will shine in any study or collection.
