This beautiful calculating machine is an original Thales A, made in Germany circa 1920 and in amazing condition. The calculator has been fully cleaned and fine-tuned so today it provides an excellent performance. All its component parts and pieces are original and work in a fluid and soft way; this feature turns the machine into a functional item as well as being a lovely mechanical antique. The calculator stands on its original wooden base. At its front side we can see the Thales logo engraved in the metal case and painted white. This name correspond to the machines made by the Thales-Werke, a famous calculator factory that was active during many decades of the 20th century. Founded by Emil Schuber, L. Haberer and Max Mueller, the company became one of the iconic calculator brands during the first half of the century, together with Brunsviga and Triumphator. In 1933, Max Mueller was found guilty of embezzlement and forced to leave the company, but in 1946 he came back to lead the company again. Thales calculator kept on being produced in the factory located in Rastatt, Germany until the late 1960s. This wonderful calculator is a good example of the quality and the beauty of Thales designs. It is one of the first models made by the company, model A, a complete and functional machine. The metal case bears a fine black-enameled finish with red and white numbers in great condition. The handles of the cranks are made of bone-colored bakelite and are original too. At the machines base, to the right we can see the calculators serial number engraved in the metal: 9265. Its functionality and evocative design turn this calculator into a charming piece, attractive and efficient.
