Attractive Original Odhner Calculator, Model 239. Switzerland, 1960.

Fine and sober mechanic pinwheel calculator, in good condition. This is an Original Odhner Model 139, a machine made in Switzerland by the company created by the inventor of pinwheel calculators: Willgodt T. Odhner. The machine boasts a compact design, with white enameled metal case and silvery mobile parts. It has black bakelite knobs and handles and preserves the original plate with the market name at the front. Willgodt T. Odhner was a Russian engineer that developed the pinwheel system from Leibnizs aritmometer. In 1874 he launched his first calculating machine that would be the base of hundred of similar designs. These calculators were used until the 1970s. The wonderful machine we can see in these images is a good example of Odhner calculators nice design and solidity. Though the artihmometer is in working order, it needs fine-tuning as sometimes it gets stuck. Thanks to its beauty, this Odhner calculator deserves a special place in a museum or a good collection.
