Fantastic Walther Brand Calculator Model WSR 160, 1960. This is a wonderful calculating machine with original military green lacquered case with different numbering registers. It is well preserved aesthetically and technically, it works perfectly. The machine has a crank or windlass mechanism. The cream colored enamel numerals and the decorative cream and deep red levers make this machine a very beautiful piece aesthetically. It has slight rust marks that are barely noticeable, which do not detract one iota from the value of this fantastic collector's item. On the upper front it has a decorative small plate with the logo with the name of the brand: WALTHER, with white lettering. Also, on the back, it has a black rectangular plate with the name of the brand, the model, and the serial number: 132028. It is revised and in perfect working condition, as the first day. This type of machines are objects for science lovers. They have their origin in the XVII century, when the first adding machines were built, characterized by using a gear-based operation, which arise to alleviate the work activity of those people engaged in accounting work. The Walther company was founded in 1886, when the founder Carl Walther set up a gunsmith's business in Thuringia. By 1908 it was already a company with a worldwide reputation. The company survived the war of 1914-18 and later the great economic crisis. In 1924 the company decided to introduce calculating machines in order to expand the product line into civilian areas. The first Walther calculator was an example as the present hand-cranked one based on the Odhner design. They will be a great success and in 1939 the brand produces up to 17 different models, with exports to many countries. During the Second World War it would concentrate on the manufacture of weapons, but without ceasing to innovate in terms of calculator models. The first post-war calculator was another very successful pin-wheel machine, which was improved over the years. They continued to manufacture during the 1960s accounting machines, optical print character recognition systems and data collection systems for computer processing. The WSR-160 model has the feature of adding rotor compensation and transfer support mechanism, which earlier models did not have. In addition the two-handled record offset has been replaced by a single red lever on the right end of the carriage, and a small white control on the lower front. The lever normally clears the registers together, but the control can be set on either side to clear by counter accumulator or alone. Great piece! Perfect for special and nostalgic people who know how to appreciate its value..
