Impressive MADAS calculator from 1913. It is a magnificent calculating machine which has been fully restored and works like the first day. This is a big calculator (more than sixty centimeters long) and a very special piece, as it has eight figures and can make divisions. MADAS is actually an acronym composed by the initials of the words Multiplication, Automatic División, Adition and Substraction. The Swiss company founded by engineer Hans W. Egli, specialized in calculating machines, developed MADAS calculators (machines with automatic division system) in 1913, just when this particular calculator was made. This machine is model SN3775, which was produced between 1930 and the 1930s. In this calculator, division is set up manually with the carriage at the far right. The division control (below the bell) is then set to the left, and the crank is pressed down and turned continuously until the bell rings twice. The machine provides eight-figure results, improving simpler models which only show seven-figure ones. The machine is fully restored and shows the original brass color, shiny and polished, with no bumps or knocks. The calculator has a metal cover which protects it when is not in use. The cover is painted black, and so are the base and the four legs. In the brass surface we can see different cranks and small pieces which operate the calculator, all of them in perfect condition. The machine works fluidly and softly, and it is as effective as the first day. It is a rare example of a vintage calculator from the beginning of the 20th century, and will surely stand out in any collection of ancient machines. Measurements: 610 mm width x 170 mm height.
