Antique Chateau mechanical calculator made in France in 1920. It is in perfect working order and makes it possible to perform the four basic arithmetical operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The calculator works with a pinwheel mechanism, similar to the one designed by the engineer W.T. Odhner in the late 19th century. The casing that protects and hides the mechanism is made of metal sheet and is covered by a fine black-enameled finish. At the right side of the calculator (where we can see the gears to select the numerals), the black finish is worn because of the intense use of the machine. The rest of the black enamel is in good condition, just like the paint that makes the engraved numerals stand out. At the left side of the machine there is a square-shaped metal plate, riveted to the metal casing and with the engraved brand name, CHATEAU. On top of this plate we can see the engraved serial number Nº 11606, and to the right, a logo with the inscription UNIS FRANCE. Nostalgic and functional, this superb antique Chateau mechanical calculator has still long to live, maybe as a decorative item or as a desk assistant.
