Striking Original Odhner vintage calculator made in Switzerland in the 1960s, very well preserved and in perfect working order. This machine, a charming and entirely original item, shows off a compact and austere design, stylish and functional. The mechanism is in perfect condition and makes it possible to perform the four basic arithmetic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) with exact outcomes. The levers, pointers, buttons and crank move fluidly and softly, turning the calculators manipulation into a real pleasure for the user. The metal casing bears a fine bone-white hammered enameled finish in quite good condition. It is a good-looking color that makes a difference with the classic grey and green finishes, typical of these calculators. The pointers, buttons and knobs are made of black plastic material and look shiny and even, just like the chromed-metal mobile component parts. To the left of the outcome box we can see the brand name ORIGINAL-ODHNER in white lettering on a black background. The name is also printed at the back of the calculator. At the base we find the serial number 239 878435 engraved in the metal and a sticker with the following inscription in German: This device is owned by the Antiques Museum Foundation in Schaan (Liechtenstein, Switzerland). Its amazing condition and inherent beauty turn this vintage Original Odhner calculator into an exclusive item that will shine on a study desk or an exhibition bookshelf. Measurements: Bases Width: 7.4 in / 18.5 cm. Maximum Width (without Crank): 10 in / 25 cm. Depth: 6.8 in / 17 cm. Odhner was a Swedish engineer and entrepreneur who invented his first arithmometer (or pinwheel calculator) in Rusia in 1871. Odhner was repairing a Thomas arithmometer, the only mechanical calculator in production at the time, and decided to replace its heavy Leibniz cylinder by a lighter pinwheel disk. So he created the first modern calculator whose design was imitated and reproduced countless times during the 20th century. Odhner produced and sold his owns calculators, but after the Russian revolution of 1917 he moved to Switzerland and opened a new factory where he manufactured his arithmometers under the Original Odhner commercial name.
