Antique Britannic mechanical calculator made in England circa 1920, in fine condition and perfect working order. The calculator shows off a gorgeous and original golden enameled finish that makes it stand out among the sober black machines that were common in those days. The solid-wooden base, composed of several assembled mahogany pieces in different color shades, is the original one and remains in good condition, preserving the original finish too. The golden enamel that covers the calculators metal casing is also finely preserved, showing only some slightly worn parts that provide this item with authenticity and charm. The calculator preserves all its original component parts and pieces. They all move fluidly and softly, making it possible to perform basic arithmetical operations with exact outcomes. The inscriptions and numerals engraved in the metal casing are painted in red and white; the paint is the original one and is in fine condition. To the left of the digit levers we can see a long inscription with the calculators name, BRITANNIC, and a trident. The manufacturers name, Guys Calculating Machines Ltd., is engraved under the model name together with the address in London. At the right bottom corner we find the calculators engraved serial number: 1932. On the other hand, riveted to the wooden base we can see a metal plate with the inscription The Muldivo Calculating Machine Co. Ltd., owner of the original company. Guy in 1909. This company was the only producer of Odhner-type pinwheel calculators in Britain, being the Britannic the starring model. This calculator was a copy of the famous Brunsviga and started being manufactured during World War I. The machine embodied some improvements that were patented by Guy, including a setting-lever clearing device for zeroing the levers by a single movement. In 1939 The Muldivo Calculating Machines Co. Ltd. bought the company from the Guy brothers and launched a new calculator, this time similar to the Thales. In 1969 Muldivo sold the company.
