Antique Monarch mechanical adding machine made in New York, USA, in the 1930s. This is a fully original machine, with all its component parts and pieces and in perfect working order. Aesthetically, this machine is also finely preserved though being almost one century old. It was manufactured for the German market and this is why it mounts a side plate with the name and address of the original distributor in Berlin. Moreover, the brass plate which frames the front lever (where the user can choose between tens, hundreds, etc.) is also in German. The machines casing is made of black-enameled metal, the finish being wonderfully preserved and looking shiny and even. The chrome-plated component parts show no signs of rust or wear, being also in excellent condition. The keys are made of red and black bakelite and are all original. The results of the operations are shown at the top counter and is also printed on the paper roll. At the back of the machine we can see a small brass plate with the engraved serial number NR 3341. Surely this antique Monarch mechanical adding machine with printer has still many operations to perform. A charming and historical piece, perfect for any lover of mechanical antiques.Monarch Adding Machines History Monarch calculators history starts in 1925, when Thomas OMehan, a North-American engineer, files a patent for his Brennan adding machine. The machine was named after Thomas Brennan, the investor who financed the manufacturing operation. In spite of the machines good performance, it was launched in 1929 and became a victim of the depression. The manufacturing rights were acquired by Remington; the company changed the calculators name for Monarch and started to produce it in their Ohio plant. This happened in 1936, when Mehan relinquished the Monarch development to Remington. The firm also made and produced typewriters under the same brand name.
