Mexican calculating machine made in the 1930-40s by Jion Calculadoras S.A., a firm from Guadalajara, Jalisco. This is a rare machine that has survived to our days in great condition and perfect working order. The intrinsic beauty of the item joins its functionality to make up a wonderful piece that can perform arithmetical operations just like the first day of use. The machine is made of black-lacquered iron, shiny and polished, with parts and gears made of silvery metal, a crank with a wooden handle and red bakelite details. This is an Odhner calculator which works with a pinwheel system. On the shiny black-lacquered finish which covers and protects the metal we can see the numbers painted white, just like the inscription with the name of the manufacturing company (Jion Calculadoras S. A. GUADALAJAR, JAL) with the star-shaped logo, located to the left of the numbers. The machines design is solid and compact and its top is curiously rounded, so its shape is quite different from similar European models of those days.At the back of the calculator there is another inscription engraved in the metal and painted white. It bears the words HECHA EN MEXICO (made in Mexico) and to its left there is a metal plate with the following words: S. N. F. Olympia 29 Rue de Berry-PARIS BAL 42-42. This plate suggests that the machine was made in Mexico but its destiny was the European market. From those days a long time has passed, but in spite of it the calculator is in excellent condition and works wonderfully. This will undoubtedly be a great acquisition for a clever collector of rare machines and vintage calculators.Measurements: Width: 310 mm. Height: 130 mm.
