Vintage Lipsia calculating machine model # 3 made in the 20's in Leipzig, Germany. This small and attractive calculator which works on a pinwheel principle (Odhner system) is in good condition and perfect working order. The machine is made of black-lacquered iron and stands on a solid wooden plank. It keeps its original protecting cover made of curved plywood, which can be attached to the wooden base and locked with the original key, also included.The black-lacquered finish which protects and embellishes the piece is well preserved and so are the silvery metal mobile pieces. The cranks has a black bakelite handle, also in good condition. The engraved numbers are painted white, and the inscription with the brands name engraved to the left of the numbers is also white. This word, Lipsia, is elegantly written and disposed diagonally. The plank where the machine stands on is made of oak wood and is slightly worn in some parts, but this is easy to restore for a good professional. The protecting cover is made of oak plywood and keeps the original metal handle and the beautiful key that locks it to the plank.On the base plank there is a golden metal plate with the following inscription in black lettering: Carl Wieske Chemintz Büromaschinen und Einrichtungen. This is probably the name of the distributor where the machine was originally purchased. Lipsia is the name of a series of mechanic calculating machines built according to the pinwheel system (Odhner system). O. Holzapfel and Co. Started making these calculators in 1914 in Leipzig, Germany, and according to their own words, the Lipsia is the product of thirty years of practical experience and theoretical knowledge in the building of calculating machines.
