Exclusive Swedish Original Odhner calculator made in 1925, model number 24. This is a quality and prestigious article which has come to us in great condition and perfect working order. The calculator has the pinwheel system that Willgodt Theophil Odnher invented in 1874; his surname gave the brand its name. The machine is made of black-lacquered cast-iron with silvery metal mobile parts. The black finish is in great condition and so is the mechanism, which works fluidly and softly. The lacquer only shows some slight scratches at the base (mainly at the back) that do not interfere with the calculators elegance and fine look. The numbers are on the right side of the device. They are engraved in the metal and painted white. The boxes for the results are at the bottom of the calculator and they occupy a surface that exceeds the machine on its left side. In the top left corner we can see an embossed golden inscription with the words AKTIEBOLAGET (corporation in Swedish) - ORIGINAL ODHNER GÖTTEBORG SVERIGE. This detail indicates the origin of the article and testifies for its authenticity. At the back, in the top left corner we can see the calculators serial number engraved in the metal: Nº 24-303571. Again at the front we can see a silvery metal plate screwed to the bottom left corner of the machine. It shows the name of the manufacturing company (Original Odhner SA) and the address of the distributor, located in Brussels (Belgium). Odhner calculators were known as arithmometers and operated with a pinwheel system which was invented byWillgodt Theophil Odhner in 1874 in St. Petersburg, Russia. Curiously enough, Frank S. Baldwin developed a similar system in 1872 in the USA but Odhner calculators became more popular as they were the first to be mass-produced. This striking calculator is an exclusive and original piece, an essential acquisition for a complete collection of calculating machines from the early 20th century. Measurements: Width: 440 mm. Height: 120 mm.
