Minerva calculators were surely the most famous calculating machines in Spain during the 1950s and 60s. This model boasts a solid and charming design that relates it directly to European pinwheel calculators such as Brunsviga machines. This piece has a green enameled cast-iron body, is in quite good condition and works perfectly, preserving all its original accuracy. It is estimated that more than 70.000 Minerva calculators were manufactured between 1946 and 1969. Many of them were exported to more than eighty countries around the world, something which attests to its quality and excellence. The company that made this items was Famosa (Fábrica de Artículos Mecánicos para Oficina S.A., located in Barcelona), founded in 1945. Minerva calculating machines were distributed by a company owned by Pablo Huc, who later left their distribution to Ormisa (that also manufactured other calculators such as popular Brunsviga) and started manufacturing and selling his own calculator under the name of Phuc.A sentence published in Spanish paper ABC in 1955 talked about Minerva calculator as a machine that was faster than brain. Obviously nowadays its speed has been largely outweighed by current technology, but is precisely this fact which turns this machine into a very special and charming item. As well as decorative, this calculator is also a functional piece that can be used to perform arithmetic operations with full precision. At the front the machine bears its name Minerva printed on the green enamel, while at the rear we can see the inscription FABRICADA EN ESPAÑA (made in Spain) engraved in the metal. The lovers of antique machines will surely find in this Minerva calculator the perfect piece to complete their collections.Measurements: Width: 320 mm.
