Antique couple of resin figures made in China, quite charming and boasting a delicate decoration full of reliefs. Very bg. The figures depict a couple of royal characters, an emperor and an empress, and were made in the half of the 20th century. They are quite personal and figurative in style. Though they are made of resin using moulds, they were later worked by hand to enhance the tiny reliefs, carvings and gaps that form the intricate decoration that cover the resin surface. Both figures, symmetrical and identical in size, stand of hand-carved wooden pedestals with ebony-like finish and fully oriental in style. The statues have both their head with an antique reparation. They depict a Chinese couple of emperor and empress dressed in the traditional way, with rich clothes and adorns and expressive faces. Their bodies are stylized and lean inwards so they create a harmonious and balanced set. The male figure, designed to stand to the left, is dressed with a traditional robe full of embroidered motives depicting dragons and grapevines. He shows a curious gesture, with his arms drawn close to the body and his right hand lifted as if to bless. His head is quite remarkable, with nicely depicted hair and beard and a Foo lion carved at the front of his hat. The female statue is delicate and subtle, depicting a richly dress woman that bends to the right. Her robes are decorated with peacocks and flowery branches. She boasts a complex hairdo with a big carved ornamental comb, and is adorned with nice jewels. Her expression is relaxed and intelligent and her hands are holding the long belt. Classy and decorative, this couple of Chinese figures is an attractive and exotic set, perfect for a house with a very special style. Measurements: Width: 9.4 in/24 cm.
