Large Canton porcelain bowl made in China in the early 20th or the late 19th century (circa 1900). The bowl is in excellent condition in spite of being more than one hundred years old. It shows no cracks, dents or restored parts and the coloring is as lively and bright as the first day. The piece stands on a hand-carved wooden pedestal with a nice ebony-like matt finish. The bowl is profusely decorated all over, both inside and outside. The decoration is divided in panels that depict domestic scenes involving traditionally dressed figures. Another panels are decorated with flowers and animals (butterflies and birds), delicately painted with a wide array of colors. We can distinguish some species such as camellias, and also birds of paradise and lotus flowers. The domestic scenes show daily routines such as people talking in groups or sipping tea. The figures are simply attired, with ample pink and blue kimonos. These scenes depict groups of people in rooms and patios, all of them beautifully decorated with colorful panels and architectural details. Between the pictures we can see a wonderful background with a complicate vegetal-inspired decoration: leaves, stems and flowers on a golden field, with the predomination of the green color that gives the porcelain its name. All the details have been painted by hand with remarkable mastery and freedom, making up a striking decoration. The wooden stand is made of hand-carved wood, soberly decorated with equidistant holes and lines simulating petals. This antique Chinese porcelain bowl is a quality piece with a great decorative power, perfect to form part of the best collection of oriental pieces. Measurements: Width: 14.5 in/37 cm.
