Extraordinary Exotic Wooden Wastebasket. China, late XIX century.

Extraordinary Chinese Paper Basket from the late 19th century, made of very hard exotic wood, possibly Zitan. It features a diagonal profile decorated with the characteristic Chinese dragon of oriental culture. All sides are decorated with small dragons, floral forms and Chinese letters, carved with extreme exquisiteness. On the edges there is a profile in the shape of a bamboo cane, which is explicitly linked to oriental culture. In the lower front part there is a small drawer and, by opening the two upper lids, you can access the interior. The interior is perfectly distributed thanks to wooden dividers with an openwork undulating profile. The inside of the lids is also decorated in the same style as the outside. It has a dedication on the inside. It has a key, although it is not possible to know if it is the original or a later one.A very special piece for a very demanding person.Weight: 3,5 kg.
